Amber is a travel addict, who thrives on exploring new cultures, cities, relationships...
Amber is an intellectual traveler, she frequents bookstores, modern art museums, world heritage sites. You’ll find her staying in charming buildings with tiled floors, tiny balconies and winding staircases. You’ll find her photographing crumbling walls spray painted with graffiti and political slogans in different languages. You’ll find her gazing at sunsets and misty mountains, wildflowers and new moons. You’ll find her sitting in a coffee shop with a notebook, a novel, and a newspaper. You’ll find her debating about migration and human rights, the notion of home and the notion of happiness.
She craves depth and inspiration and she demands a lot from the world, and has a lot to give back. Because she’s curious and discerning she refuses to settle for a mediocre experience. As a result, Amber has developed an uncanny instinct for discovering amazing spots when she travels.
Amber is me…welcome to my blog!
Amber’s Addiction is a space to tell stories about my experiences wandering through different cities, and to share thoughtfully curated lists of tasteful spots.
I do lots of research when I travel and usually stay at multiple hotels, eat at countless restaurants, and explore and experiment quite a bit. Of all the places I go I will only choose my very favorites to share with you here and can therefore say with full confidence: these places are excellent.
Amber’s Addiction isn’t meant to be a comprehensive travel guide- it’s a curated list of handpicked spots, embedded within my own stories and memories. It’s not prescriptive- it won’t help you plan your trip, or give advice about when to go or what to pack.
But if you want to get a taste of what that city feels like, then read my stories…If you want to get a glimpse of the colors and streets and art, then look at my photos... And if you like the way I experience the world, then I’ll help you have a similar experience…
For each destination, I’ll always address 6 points, which will be packed with recommendations and give you a good idea of what my itinerary looked like:
1. Amber stayed at: From resorts that cost 600 dollars a night to guest houses for 40 dollars, I will stay anywhere if I think it has character. Most hotels I recommend will fall somewhere in the middle of the spectrum, but I tend to gravitate towards artsy, boutique hotels.
2. Amber ate at: From fine dining restaurants to hole in the wall cafes, I am looking for excellent food and a good vibe. I’m generally not into fancy, Michelin-starred places, instead I’m searching for authentic restaurants that you can’t find anywhere else.
3. Amber played at: Where did I have fun? This will encompass cultural or leisure activities: hikes, museums, sports, music venues, clubs, lounges, historical sites…
4. Amber shopped at: I like to discover unique brands and boutiques, local designers and artists that you won’t find in mainstream stores. I’m not into the cliché touristy trinkets, I prefer high-quality pieces that I can integrate into my own wardrobe and wear in my real life or decorate my home with. If I can find a local brand that’s supporting a cause, that makes it even more desirable.
5. Amber read: I love to read and when I travel I always bring a book written by an author from the specific country I’m going to, or a novel set in that country, so I can learn about the culture, history and politics through literature.
6. Amber loved: A quick, one sentence summary of what I loved most about the destination.
These are my experiences…I hope you enjoy them!
